The Online Trust Audit & Honor Roll is the de facto standard for recognizing excellence in consumer protection, data security and responsible privacy practices for the world’s top companies.

OTA is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing and advancing best practices and tools to enhance the protection of users’ security, privacy and identity. As the only comprehensive, independent online trust benchmark study, the ninth annual OTA Online Trust Audit evaluates websites in three categories: consumer protection, responsible privacy practices and security.

The Online Trust Audit analyzes over 1,000 consumer-facing web sites across multiple sectors, including the Internet Retailer Top 500, Top 100 Banks, Top 100 U.S. Federal government sites, Top 100 Consumer Service sites, Top 100 News and Media sites, Top 100 ISPs, Carriers & Hosters and OTA Member Organizations. Sites qualify for the Honor Roll by achieving a score of 80 percent or higher overall with no failures in any of the three evaluated categories.  The Audit revealed that 52 percent of analyzed websites qualified for the Honor Roll, a five percent improvement over 2016.
